A (Very) Mini Kitchen Makeover

A very mini kitchen re-do comin’ at cha! But first,

LUNCH

Lunch happened a bit later than usual today and included my favorite kind of meal: leftovers!

salmon

I just reheated last night’s dinner, minus the spaghetti squash, followed by a bowl of frozen fruit <– told ya I’m obsessed.

Not two hours later did hunger come again.

toast

I don’t think it looks quite as good as it tasted, but I toasted a slice of Ezekiel bread + 1 slice reduced fat swiss + sugar free strawberry preserves. Sweet ‘n savory is the best!

A (VERY) MINI KITCHEN MAKEOVER

Since Bobby and I rent a 1,200 square foot apartment in a high rise (read: tiny space), we are a tad limited in terms of changing anything we don’t like about the place. I’m lucky enough to have a mom who updates people’s homes for a living, so I’ve learned a lot about redecorating by default.

I’ve been coveting a rug for our kitchen ever since I moved in with Bobby in July.

As you can see, the space needed some added color and warmth. Enter this Ballard Designs indoor/outdoor rug!

On sale for $29.00, I just couldn’t pass it up.  I’d also like to add some navy hand towels to go along with the rest of our color scheme.

Before & After kitchen

Per the recommendation of my mom, I knew I wanted an indoor/outdoor rug since the kitchen is such a high-traffic area. I also didn’t want to spend much since we’ll probably toss this rug if/when we move.

I feel like there are so many untapped resources for inexpensive rugs, so here is a compilation of my favorite resources:

  • Ballard Designs: I find some home decor websites to be very hard to navigate, but I love the layout of this one. You can easily shop by need (say, entryway or kitchen mats), and shipping is fast. I like the soft colors of this one for a bedroom.

  • West Elm: One of my go-tos for home accessories and gifts. The rugs are not the cheapest on their own, but if you can use a sale coupon (sales happen hereall the time), the savings can be huge.

  • Overstock.com: This place is a gold mine for rugs! Thanks to my mom for turning me on to their inexpensive and endless options. While the website can be overwhelming, if you can narrow your search to a particular color, price point or fabric, it will be easier to navigate. I love the color options on this one.

  • Home Decorators: While not as well known as the others, homedecorators.com is a great resource for affordable finds. The rug options are always unique and hard to find elsewhere. I almost bought this one for our kitchen.

  • Lulu & Georgia: I first came across this site after visiting my brother and sister-in-law’s new house (hi Gs!), and have quickly fallen in love. The rug selection is feminine, yet bohemian, and there are options at every price point. My sister-in-law added this one to their living room.
